Rámon Polo

Dr. Rámon Polo, PharmD, PhD, MBA, joined Aligos in 2025 as the Senior Vice President, Head of Global Regulatory Affairs. Dr. Polo’s diverse expertise includes leading and overseeing development teams, pharmacovigilance programs and regulatory strategies. He joins Aligos from Shionogi Inc., where he served as the Senior Vice President, Head of Global Regulatory Affairs, and focused on regulatory strategies for a number of different Therapeutic Areas, including infectious diseases. Previously, Dr. Polo was the Vice President, Head of Infectious Diseases, Vaccines & Global Public Health Regulatory Affairs at Johnson & Johnson, where he played a key role in navigating the scientific, regulatory and global rollout challenges of the largest health crisis in a century as part of Johnson & Johnson’s core team for the COVID-19 vaccine. Prior to this, Dr. Polo led the development strategy of treatments for influenza, RSV and hepatitis C at Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson. Dr. Polo received his PharmD, Master of Science and Ph.D. in Clinical Biochemistry from the Complutense University of Madrid in Spain. He obtained his Global MBA from the IESE Business School, University of Navarra, and attended the Program for Management Development at Harvard Business School.

Jim Hassard

James Hassard serves as our Executive Vice President, Chief Commercial Officer. Prior to joining Aligos, Jim was Chief Commercial Officer at Crinetics Pharmaceuticals and Arrowhead Pharmaceuticals where he built the commercial capabilities and launch strategies for more than four rare disease programs. Earlier in his career, Mr. Hassard held positions of increasing responsibility at Coherus Oncology, Amgen, and Merck, launching multiple pharmaceutical products in therapeutic areas including hepatitis, oncology, and nephrology. He has global experience in the United States, Canada and Europe, including as general manager of Amgen Portugal. Mr. Hassard earned a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacology from the University of Toronto, followed by a Master’s in Business Administration from Nova Southeastern University.
